There will be teacup rides, pony rides, games, stalls, a dog-jumping show, live music, food and coffee vans.
It’s going to be rip-roaring fun. Events at Aldersgate Village always are.
Residents recently started reminiscing about carnivals they had attended during their childhood and how much they had enjoyed them – and one thing led to another. Before long, the fair was being organised – and it’s open to the whole community.
“We decided to bring the fair to the residents and welcome everyone to our beautiful grounds,” explains Residential Services Manager Audette Groenewold. “The residents are whole-heartedly looking forward to connecting with the community and sharing the joy of a fair.”
Enthusiasm grew and before long, the residents from the adjoining Independent Living Village also jumped on the bandwagon and are now running Devonshire Teas and a sausage sizzle.
“We put the call out to residents’ families and friends and so many of them have donated wonderful bric-a-brac for sale at the stalls, including chopping boards made out of gorgeous Tasmanian wood,” says Audette. “Home-knitted items are up for sale, there are also jams and preserves on offer, as well as traditional popcorn and fairy floss.”
Lifestyle Coordinator Eleanor Clinton says it’s heartening to see the excitement and engagement amongst the residents, who are truly “owning the event.”
She’s been working flat out to make it all happen, and says the joy on their faces is all the reward she needs!
Do you know friends or family who live in Northern Tassie? Tell them about the Fair and encourage them to attend. Entry is by gold coin donation; rides and food can be purchased – cash only.
