Sharing how we care

Thank you to everyone who assisted and gave advice to the vast number of visitors at the Care and Ageing Well expo recently.

Over 2000 people flocked to the event at the Melbourne Convention Centre on the weekend of 10 and 11 February and several hundred stopped at our stall to ask for advice on a range of topics, including home care services, Allied Health, respite care and the financial ins and outs of residential aged care and independent living units.

Our team handed out over 1000 gift bags containing information about our services.

Director of Home Care North West Metro and Barwon Sherry-Ann Bailey says between 10 to 15 Uniting AgeWell staff were on hand each day to assist with inquiries.  Questions came thick and fast from a wide variety of people, including older people and people inquiring about support for their parents.

“About a dozen or so visitors were so impressed by the services we offer they asked how to switch aged care providers to join us,” Sherry-Ann says.  “Others who receive home care services through us wanted to find out more information for friends.  Already we’re receiving a lot of follow-up calls.”

Sherry-Ann says there were also inquiries about careers and three people were booked in for job interviews after it became apparent through chatting to them, that they demonstrated the Uniting AgeWell values of kindness, respect, integrity, innovation and inclusion.

The mini-exercise sessions run on the stage on both days by Exercise Physiologist Cass Lester and Allied Health Assistant Emelia Johnston were very well received, with visitors not only participating but coming to the Uniting AgeWell stand afterwards to see how they could join.

Both Cass and Emelia also spoke on stage about what types of workouts are best for cardiovascular and bone health, muscle retention, falls prevention and overall wellness.

We were also pleased to welcome Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt to our stand where she chatted with our team about the services Uniting AgeWell offers.
