Just ask Uniting AgeWell Housing Administration Officer Jane Legard. She recently found herself playing host to the Leader of the Opposition in Tasmania, Rebecca White, who was keen to learn more about Uniting AgeWell and the independent living village in Perth, just south of Launceston.
Jane says it was raining heavily but that didn’t stop Rebecca from having a look around the village and then enjoying a delicious lunch at the unit of Liz Wood, who has lived there for seven years.
Liz and fellow resident Mavis Green, who has lived in the village for two years, seized the opportunity over lunch to campaign for a bus stop to be reinstated outside of the village. Rebecca promised to investigate, much to their joy.
“Rebecca also asked lots of questions about Uniting AgeWell and Liz and Mavis told her how happy they are living in Glenrowan,” explains Jane. “Rebecca was very impressed and said she would love to find the time to visit all our other independent living villages in Tasmania.”
Rebecca confirms that her visit to Glenrowan was thoroughly enjoyable.
“It was such a delight to meet with Liz, Mavis and Jane and made me feel proud to know that across our state we have such caring organisations helping people live with dignity in their older age,” says Rebecca. “Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. It certainly showcased Uniting AgedWell as an inclusive and supportive place.”
