It’s time to register for the three iconic Rainbow festivals in Melbourne and Hobart next year:
the Midsumma Festival on Sunday, 19 January 2025
the PRIDE March on Sunday, 2 February 2025
TasPride on Saturday, 1 February 2025
Building on previous years’ experiences, the events promise to be both fun and meaningful. It’s also an opportunity for us to march and walk the talk in showing the world that Uniting AgeWell welcomes all. Values are worn on our sleeve as we demonstrate our support and championship of the LGBTQIA+ community both by putting our customers at the heart of all we do and as an employer of choice.
Last year over 120,000 people flocked to the 180-stall Midsumma Carnival at Alexandra Gardens, in a day rich with a colourful variety of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.
Building on previous years’
At Midsumma in early 2024 Uniting AgeWell’s team of 25 staff from across the organisation were decked out in bright rainbow T-shirts and dove wings and equipped with welcoming smiles and ready conversations. A thousand visitor bags with flyers, information and jellybeans were handed out, with many people stopping to ask for more information about our services as well as jobs and volunteering positions.
The Midsumma Pride March last year was also a huge success. The crowd warmly received the Uniting AgeWell crew, with several spectators stepping forward to thank our team for caring and looking after their family members and friends.
Riding behind them in an air-conditioned bus was a group of five residents from our aged-care communities, who were thrilled to be part of the annual iconic LGBTQIA+ march from the Ian Johnson Oval to the Catani Gardens in St Kilda.
Dario, a Uniting AgeWell Home Care Organiser in Castlemaine, summed up the experience beautifully, “I came out late in life and this has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. This has been incredibly heart-warming and I am so grateful to Uniting AgeWell for giving me this opportunity. What a day! What a joy!”
